im 25 weeks and had my second '20 week scan' as i moved area. they told me that the umbillical cord only has 2 blood vessels instead of 3, all is fine, however got to have a growth scan at 32 weeks to check he is growing properly. Just wondering if anybody else has had this and if there baby was smaller at birth and healthy? Also, the nuchual fold was 5 mm, is this normal? the midwife said she would point out any signs for downs but did not sayshe saw anything unusual other than the 2vc , however i read having a gap of more than 2.5 mm is 'high risk' in Dr mirriam stoppards 'pregnancy and birth' book, not worried, just unsure. Please only answer if you truly do know.Thankyou x

About the nuchal fold...if the area measures more than 2.5mm during the 11-13 WEEK testing for it, then you are considered high risk for downs. By the 20th week scan if it measures above 6mm you are high risk for ds. I just had my 20 week scan yesterday and it measured 4.5mm which is right on for that point in pregnancy. So measuring 5mm is absolutely fine! I hate how complicated pregnancy and the testing for birth defects is. I had been so stressed! Hopefully this helps you!

no did not have this prob with the cord but i have also read on many occasions that if the nuchual fold which is the amount of fluid at the back of baby's neck is above 2.5mm it is classed as high risk in which case they should of said something to you.
id get a second opinion or pay go private
hope this helps.
remember doctors get things wrong all the time im sure every thing is fine but you want peace of mind.
good luck

I was also told (2 days ago) that my baby's umbilical cord only has 2 vessels, but everything else is fine. I am anxious to hear what other people say about this, since I have never heard of it before and now am very concerned..

Good luck!

You know... 2 vessel cords are not a big deal... I was told that with my last... but when i went back (mine was @ 30) weeks, they found the 3rd vessel. 2 vessel pregnancies are nothing to worry about.. but what can be dangerous is worrying about it. Stress can be very dangerous in pregnancy, so if your doctor is not concerned, try to relax! Good luck hon!

no I didn't have this problem, but you should feel lucky that you have a doctor that is watching so closely. I hope everything goes well and you have healthy baby.
