If I were doing that, I might use two bottles (plastic or glass) with small necks, one mounted upside down on top of the other. They could be attached with tape, or glue, or decoratively, etc., after the sand was added.

If you wanted to make the sand go more slowly than those size necks would allow, you could put something inside or between the bottles to make the passageway there smaller--like a large bead with a hole in it, or a cone of cardstock, etc., etc.).

There would be other ways, but that's just the first one that occurs to me that would be fairly simple (sorry, no website, just my thoughts).
