Purchase a NO SMOKING SIGN< and stuff it under the HOOD! REALLY, you do NOT need major engine work, but OPENING YOUR HOOD and looking around would be NICE! Perhaps an OIL CHANGE CENTER can examine things for you fro FREE! MOST Later model engines that SMOKE have GASKET issues, or AIR/FUEL mixture issues going on! The AIR/FUEL mixture is an EASY CURE most times. Take $20-50 to ANY LOCAL OIL CHANGE CENTER and have the THROTTLE BODY and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE cleaned up to SHOWROOM CLEAN as the final AIR/FUEL mixture sis FINE TUNED by adding extra AIR through the IAC valve here! The THROTTLE BODY Also allows AIR into the engine < ONLY! Your "GAS" pedal is really just the "AIR" pedal! CHECK for LOOSE valve cover bolts, and leaking OIL PRESSURE SWITCHES< and also check fro LEAKS in the COOLING SYSTEM as well! These things are OBVIOUS! WITHDRAW the DIPSTICK from the engine, and SMELL IT! If it smells like GASOLINE< then you REALLY DO HAVE AN AIR/FUEL mixture issues going on here! A CLEANED UP IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE usually insures a proper mixture! USE ONLY GENUINE JAGUAR COOLANTS as well and NO PRESTONE and NO VALVOLINE ENGINE OIL EITHER! JAGUARS require FULLY SYNTHETIC ONLY as oil and gas in EUROPE is LOW IN SULFUR content, and RINGS can clog up from WAX BASED OILS! Look for MOBIL ONE 0W-40 for MOST euro engines! GOOD LUCK!!

From the tailpipe? From under the hood? Only when cold, or hot, or always? Only on acceleration?

First things first, check your coolant (should be at the MAX or HOT fill line when engine is HOT). Be careful, the cap is pressurized on the overflow reservoir on this car, so don't add more coolant till its cooled off. And use the proper 50% water (preferably distilled water) 50% coolant mix.

Next check your oil.
