My father came down a short time ago for his lunch. He was cutting some damaged branches off a tree in our garden. I presume he came down because he was hungry. I can ask him if you want me to.

Probably about 5 million years ago. That is how long ago humans and chimpanzees had a common ancestor. Most likely this common ancestor lived in the trees and was able to swing by the arms from tree to tree since all of us great apes have the ability to swing from our arms which monkeys do not have. (Mondeys walk on all 4 on top of branches instead of swinging underneath)
Maybe the ancestors of humans were forced out of the trees by overcrowding. Maybe the jungle started to recede because of climate change. For some reason our ancestors moved out of the trees and devleoped the ability to walk upright.

Our ancestors still live in trees; the are a chimpanzees and orangutans, etc.
The evidence that our direct descendants were no longer living in trees has to do with the ratio of the upper limbs to the lower limbs. Apes have a ratio much closer to one. That is their arms and legs are nearly the same length. We have legs that are longer than our arms.
There is no "missing link" for this. That is there is no ancient ape that is clearly a transition to ground living.
The oldest fossils of ancient apes that walked upright and lived on the ground are about two million years old.

Since your premise is faulty, there's really no reasonable way to answer this question. But I'll answer anyway.
This happened on September 10, 506 B.C.. I believe it was a Thursday. Someone yelled "fire"! This was declared a holiday on the ancient calendar, and has since been replaced by Arbor Day.
Hope this helps:)

Our ancestors have never lived in trees.
Speaking for myself, anyway, I'm human and descended from Adam and Eve - fully human!

Probably to take a p-i-s-s. You know how long women take for that kind of stuff. And then they probably evolved while they were putting the make-up onto their monkey faces.
