I wouldn't mind getting Windows Vista, but I don't want the hassle of any problems, bugs, gltiches, etc. I also don't want to get it now if it will be significantly changed in a new edition in a year or something.

So should I get it now...?

Or wait 6 to 12 months?

if you can afford it, and you have the ability to adjust for the major changes in Vista as well as your pc, then it doesn't matter when you get it, if you wait the price will go down slightly and if you wait even longer you won't have a choice (98 for example is no longer supported by anyone)......Vista isn't glitchy nor is it buggy either (despite several postings to the contrary) its part of why Microsoft waited 5 years to release it, most reports you read (that say its buggy) are from people who used the beta versions, or are using the standard edition......all the features and extras that Microsoft is using in its advertising is based on the premium and ultimate versions, if you are only going to upgrade to the basic, its not worth it as it really only changes the basics of the OS and does not have most of the features people are looking for when upgrading to Vista. Your first step is to check if your current pc can handle Vista by going to the Vista site and downloading the Vista readiness tool......and also check with manufacturers sites (sound card, video, lan/modem) for Vista drivers......the only major thing I have found with VIsta is if you have an older sound card or even a fairly new one that is part of the motherboard, th drivers are not always compatible and you may lose sound if you do not have the latest drivers for the sound card.....there are some programs which have to be run in compatibility mode but its not that big of a deal to set it up. As far as any significant changes over the coming year(s) I'm sure there will be some, there always is with technology, but I do not forsee the core of the OS being changed anytime within the next 3 years.

You should wait about 12 months. Windows Vista may still have bugs in it. Don't take any chances. It doesn't matter which edition of Vista you get. If you have Windows XP, keep it. XP is better than Vista. Windows XP used to be so cool. Why do they have to make something new every time? 10 years from now, Vista will be as popular as Windows 95 is now. Windows 95 used to be the coolest thing!! Don't waste all of your money for EVERY version. Wait a few years. You don't know what you're missing!!!!!!

I would suggest that you wait until the fall season when Microsoft should be releasing the Vista Service Pack 1....we all know that when Microsoft releases a new OS there has always been problems...and that is not even thinking about the problems Vista is having already with thrid party drivers and such. Just because Vista is neat looking with all it's new GUI and graphics...I foresee a bunch of issues with the new OS...keep XP untill the first service pack is released...

A friend of mine who is a computer programmer got Windows Vista. He said he didn't like it because it took up 15% of the processor just sitting on the desktop. He ended up switching back to Windows XP.

Vista requires powerful hardware. If you have a laptop, you should be sure it has the speed and memory for it.
As with all home computer equipment, the way you use it should determine what you have, not the latest new thing on the market.

Wait. Def. wait, because right now vista is just a bug ridden piece of garbage (so im told), you should wait until its safer, more reliable, and stable. also the whole drivers thing and your hardware manufacturers getting good ones out, they need time too. if you have xp, stick with it for now and wait a couple months or so.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate, and it seems fine. There are regular security updates and probably will be updates for years. I doubt six months to a year will matter much.

Just type "vista problems" in the Search for questions box above.

Meanwhile, try out UBUNTU. It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system. Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of programs created by the open source community.
If you want a different look, you can jazz it up with BERYL
