i have a philosophy prof who is highly knowledgable, crafty, witty, and extremely >> random<<.

my question is: is this a wide-spread thing? in other words, do you think that most philosophy inclined profs gain the upper hand in debates by being elusive and random?

with this prof you can barely make a point cuz he's also spinning a spider's web of ideas and thought and stories that are foundless and emotionally driven.

Oh, believe me... it's more than just philosophy professors. It's any prof who has the liberty to interpret his or her subject and is smart enough to do so. I've had at least one in all 4 semesters that I've been in college!
