That is possible. How is the oil level? If it is too low the sensor would sense that and not allow you to start it(motor damage would result) Add oil to the proper level and try again. A quart of oil is cheaper than a motor job(and much faster)
Do not overfill, or you will leak even faster.

First check the oil like others said.
Then - I would say the two problems might be related, might not be.
The one way they would be related is if the oil leak drenched some sensor and killed it. If you can trace the oil leak see if its pouring right over anything electrical.

first , check the oil,, ,,on sone their a safety swith to keep it from cranking if out of oil,,, see if you got gas, even tho the gage may say you have gas, they will lie to you,,, i walk 20 mile once just be cause the gage say half a tank, then to find out i was out of gas,, now see if yo got fire to the plug,,, an gas getting , to your motor,,,,, could be a bad fiter an fuil pump went out, an too when you stop the motor, it could jump time,,,are broke a timeing belt, too, some one may be playing a prank on you, an eather pull the coil wire off are put a peace of paper under the coild wire,,,,, but it sound like it going to be in the fireing of the motor, the brain could went out,,atr rotor button could have broke,,,
