Could there be some electrical wiring in contact with the piping? I thought it was just me, but wife and kids are also noticing the same thing. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

It does sound like an electrical grounding problem. Perhaps your house is grounded to a cold water pipe and a minor short circuit is being felt through the shower handles. You had best have an electrician check this out before someone gets hurt.

It sounds as if this is definitely an electrical problem, probably with the grounding and or bonding of the system. Have a licensed electrician repair this before somebody gets severely electrocuted.

What you suggest is likely, as I have observed similar things take place in buildings where parts of the electrical system were not properly grounded. You should probably hire an electrician or a plumber to take a look.

It does sound like a grounding problem to me. You should have 2 grounding conductors. One could be grounded to a cold water line and another either to a grounding electrode or to the rebar in the footing or to a grounding grid. You should contact an eelectrician as soon as possible as this is a very dangerous situation. Water and electricity are not friends at all. Or as i tell my hispanic friends" Agua y electricidad,NO BUENO!!!!!!"

I think you might be wrenching the knobs with more force than you realize. You may be simply cutting off your circulation. My 72 year old mother keeps stripping the threads off of the shower knobs every time I fix them. You are strong women -- stronger than you realize.
