Please help! I have just been hired at a new job counseling children with behavioral issues and the dress code is very comfortable. Jeans and decent shirt with tennis shoes. Most of my closet is dress slacks and heels! Need to find jeans for size 5 that is 5'1' in height. Jeans are almost always to long for me and that is even with heeled shoes. Now I need to find some in the right length to wear with flat shoes. Please help! What are the best stores for me? I live in a small town. Erie, Pa. I start this job on Monday. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I have to wear tennis shoes in case of a 'wrestling match' with the child. I guess because of the better grip. I do not want to have the jeans I already own (very few) hemmed because they fit well with my other shoes. The shoes I would normally wear.

I have the same problem you do because I'm the same height as you are. And finding jeans that's right for your height and complements your body is even harder. Anyway, I recommend that you find stores that carry petite sizes. I'm not sure what kind of stores you have in Erie, PA, but if you can't find any that would carry petite size jeans, there's always the internet. The sites I would recommend are Express (www.expressfashions.com), Gap (www.gap.com) and Old Navy (www.oldnavy.com). But of course, you can go to those stores if you guys have them there. As far as finding the right jeans that complement your body, avoid skinny jeans! It will only make you look shorter. Go for boot cut or slightly flared jeans. Since you want to wear something more comfortable and laid back, you can buy loafers or flats and top your wardrobe off with a slightly dressy top or tee. And keep in mind that dressing comfortably does not always mean that you have to wear sneakers with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. And if you really want to seem approachable to the kids your counseling, you want to have that young-look appeal to them but still maintain your grown-up style.

Check out the online store called Newport News. They have a line of jeans called The Best Fitting Jeans on Earth. They are only $19 a pair, and they come in ALL size ranges, AND a ton of different colors. I know even if you ordered them today, it would take longer than Monday to get them, but it's worth checking out.

Old Navy and The Gap have jeans in short sizes. And even if you don't have one nearby you could order them online. It might cost a little bit extra though to get it to you faster but if you're really desperate then its worth it!

If you sew, shortening the jeans without sacrificing the original hem is quite simple. Here's a good tutorial:

If you don't have the time or just don't want to do it yourself, any tailor or alteration shop should be able to do it very quickly for less than $10 a pair.

all styles are cut differently. I'm not bagging on you or walmart at all, but especially bargain stores like that, because the clothes in some cases can be lower quality. place one pair on the floor flat, and then lay the other ontop of it to see the difference in the size. that's why it's always good to try on everything when you buy them, because i noticed two of the same exact shirts, but different colors, fit differently.
