It seems to me that we are hearing only about certain canidates. I read somewhere that there is up to 13 candiates ,is that correct ? Is the media choosing who we should vote for ? What has happened to fair reporting?

The media should give equal time to all, and should treat them all the same way. However, they don't because they only cover what's interesting or scandalous.....it's what sells.
Don't rely on just media coverage & certainly not on negative campaign ads, those are usually taken out of context at best or are just plain lies at worst. Do your own research with reliable sources and inform yourself of each candidate's background and what each candidate stands for. Then use your head & vote for the best of the bunch.

If wsoxguy05 believes that is how the media works he must be young to be so naive. Liberals ( or at least us seasoned ones) with all honesty will concur that major media networks express liberal views and air programed sensationalism... for the all mighty dollar .....they're a for profit business ya' know ...to deny something so obvious would make us seem delusional and in the end hurt our candidates. And as always, name calling , propaganda , being blindly led hurt as well. Clinton or Obama don't have any real chance for presidency, either will only dilute the Dem vote and increase the Republican candidates chance of winning.............................................As far as the question asked , it has never been fair reporting. Democrats are usually the underdogs and the media evens it out. As for all the other candidates and access to them .....this is the Information Age.....you obviously have a computer ....look them up and their positions ... Don't wait ( like most) for someone else to sieve out what they think is important before giving it to you..........of course, you should be doing that all the time not just when an election is nearing.

It is fair to give only certain candidates media time for a couple reasons. 1) the media is biased and that is an acceptable fact by public/society standards so it is ok for FOX or CNN to focus on the top 2 Republican and Democrat candidates, 2) anyone can run for office as long as you meet a few criteria and have some money to put into it. You can't just assume that the grassroots candidate needs as much time as say Hillary Clinton. 90% of voters aren't thinking of voting for the grassroots candidate no matter what he says or does. They are trying to decide whether to go Republican or Democrat, Obama or Hillary, etc.

I agree that there should be, if not equal time for all candidates, at least a minimum amount of time to have their ideas heard. Just because Democrats and Republicans get elected doesn't mean you have to leave out the Greens, Libertarians, Constitutionalists or Socialists to name a few. Or is the duopoly a bunch of scaredy cats? The media, left-wing or right-wing, shouldn't choose our candidates. Election campaigning should focus on giving third parties coverage too. Besides, if voters haven't gotten used to voting for viable third parties, what makes you think they'll vote for a Nazi or a Commie, for example? Thanks!

In theory, the media is a private, for profit industry. Air time goes to those who can pay the fee. Ross Perot got plenty of airtime as an Independent, because he bought the airtime. You can find information on any candidate you like right here online. The LAST thing I want is government regulating the press.

You are hearing about only a few canidates because those are the canidates with the most money. They spend money on advertising and plane trips to meet with reporters etc. Equal time is not needed as we live in a free market economy.

They are reporting the news this early. If the public wanted to hear about all 13, they would talk about them all, thats how the media works.

Come on do we have to listen to the platform of the Green Party candidate or Communist Party Candidate? Neither one will even get an electoral vote much less contend for the Presidency. Lets concentrate on those that can actually win and not some fringe candidates.
