I use to moisturize only once a day, and have in recent years (since turning 23) been experiencing acne problems that I didn't experience as a teenager. On a recent visit to my esthetician, she explained that I am having so many breakouts because my skin is overly dry. Since I have begun moisturizing two-four times a day, I have been experiencing a lot of flaking, particularly in my blemish prone areas. Why?

I stopped using a toner when I was young and no longer had acne. Stupidest thing I ever did. As I aged, and my skin became drier, no matter which moisturizer I used I could not get beyond the dryness. Recently, I called a cosmetic company called DHC because I had used their Olive Oil cleanser and loved how it made my face feel. I wanted to know what they would suggest for a moisturizer. Their esthetician said that I needed a toner after cleansing to regulate my pH before moisturizing. I bought one along with the moisturizer she suggested and have the best skin I have ever had. The flaking is gone, and my skin is so smooth.
If you are not using a toner (and an exfoliant once a week), try one and see if it works for you like it did for me.

I know it may not seem logical, but the best thing I ever did for my face was scrub once a day (every day though) with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Removing all the dead skin has really kept my acne in check, and the only products I put on my face are tee trea oil ones from the Body Shop. It works wonders.

As one gets older your skin changes. Therefore, you can not use the same products that you once used. Have you tried for sensitive skin? Or maybe you are just using the wrong product completely? Water also helps your skin. If you do not drink enough water, usually 64 oz a day, your skin can act funky! Have you tried talking to a dermatologist or maybe consulting with a beauty consultant?

Maybe you're washing your face too much. You're only supposed to wash it 2 times a day. Anymore is unhealthy for your face. Here's my formula for healthy skin - Wash, Tone, Apply any medication if needed, then moisturize and do this only TWO TIMES a day. If you follow these steps I guarantee you will have younger looking and healthier skin.

Weather is drier and then as you grow older, your skin gradually lose their water mass. Although, you are still very young and should not have any problem with your skin cells, I suggest that you continue moisturizing your skin with products that contain Aloe Vera.

Sounds to me like you may want to see a dermatologist. In the mean time stop using your face moisturizer.
