Make sure you have the following settings in your mail client:
outgoing mail server: smtp.mac.com
server port: 587
authentication: password

It does not matter if you are using Mail, Outlook, or anything else. You will need these settings regardless. Port 25 might also work for you instead of 587, but some ISPs will block this port, preventing you from sending mail with that setting. If it is currently set to 25, I would change it since you are getting an error.

Set your email up in Outlook. Make sure you check your SMTP settings correctly for your outgoing messages. It sounds like your incoming setting are correct.

Do you have this email setup in Outlook? If so it is most likely your smtp settings.
