I never shoot the messenger but its nice if the messenger does not alter or delay the message or is not scared about delivering the message. Hey its just words. People can sometimes be cruel and slanderous but when communication is open both the lies and the truth comes out.

The messenger is the one who gets shot because when the deliver the bad news the person receiving the bad new gets very upset, because the messenger is the one who is standing in front of the receiver at the time the news is brought the messenger will get the first blow of anger from the receiver. Even though the messenger is not the one to be mad at it's a classic case of wrong place wrong time.

Because the messenger just happens to be there when the bad news is discovered. I've been a shot messenger and a shooter. I really try hard not to take it out on the messenger, though.

Because the people who get the bad news pour their rage on the messenger as they haven't got the sender in there.

Because the messenger has it coming just for being smug enough to share dissappointing news. Messenger should keep his or her mouth shut.

He's standing in front of the king. The sender of the message knows that and stays home in his own castle.
