Everyday we read that our monies are being wasted as a result of project overruns in most government departments and financial mismanagement such as child credit overpayments.

They should be held accountable, what are they special?

Yes and no. If the monies are going to legit programs regardless of how redundant, useless and counter-productive they may be the government cannot be charged as they are using the monies for legitimate purposes.

However, if the government is using the monies for non legit purposes, example ad scam in Canada, whereby the government hired a marketing company to do promotional work. However they government also put elected members on the payroll of said marketing firm, thereby allowing the MP's to collects millions of excess tax dollars which they were not working for, not entitled to and under Canadian law it is completely illegal for MP to hold a position outside of their post. IN that case yes it was illegal, tax money was squandered, the government was dismantled and charges were laid.

However it is only in the case of extreme corruption and fraudulent activity that a government can be held liable for their misspending.

The Govt is a law unto itself...oversights such as this need to be highlighted as there are many faux pas that have been committed all quietly forgotten while WE ordianry citizens pay the cost!

If they could then none of use would have to pay Tax , until the scheme is completed or proven to be successful, then the cost will be split between the tax payers, with a breakdown of costs, sent throught your door.

How about the monies wasted via one's local government? They are just as guilty!!!!!!

Unfortunately, we can't prosecute the government for wasting our money.

But I LOVE the idea! :)

Only if you can prove they did it for their own fanancial gain (breach of office kind of thing).
