Media has made some great strides towards representing the ebony Peoples more fairly but the stereo typing and fear based humour remains inside the undercurrents from both production sides of this equation. From a personal level I've meet People from all over the planet and they are just People, regardless of their differences. In America however I've meet ebony Folk who are so burned by the negative experiences from within their own community and the broader world that they must survive in that they are manifesting a hostility that they can't seem to shake. I believe that the pain of centuries enduring humiliations has so deeply cut them that it has internalized, much as the Irish have been changed under British cruelty. Only love will change this and there are some signs that it is changing, granted so very slow and so very painfully. There is no doubt in my mind that reparations should be made to those survivors of the heinous treatment and those descendants of the victims. It would go a long way towards the atonement for a so brutally treated group of Peoples. These are my impressions and in my opinion only do I write. Thank You for this question.

I would say that if there are any they are in the Northwest minus the coasts. I'm from Montana and I've only seen a handful of black people who didn't play for the University basketball or football team. And from what I've seen, I'm guessing many African Americans don't like the cold. I can't speak for myself, but my mom is about as naive as they come. I doubt she's ever had a conversation with a black person in her life. Northerners GENERALLY are ignorant of black culture, especially innercity culture or large cities in general for that matter, but are not racist people. I've never really heard people talk badly, but they do tend to speak as if they were from a foreign country.
As for the media. I'm guessing most from the area tend to think of music or sports stars when they think of black people. They tend to think that all black people can dance, but also as cry-babies about the past. (Most western states didn't become states until decades after slavery had already ended. In fact, the ancenstors of the majority probably didn't even immigrate to the US until after slavery had ended and don't think they should have to deal with affirmative action when it's the South East that where the a$$holes. Most of our ancenstors would have been to poor to own slaves even if they wanted them.) I'm not saying this is true, I'm saying I think this is how it is perceived by many in the area (Idaho, Wyoming, the Dakotas, western Minnasota, northern Nebraska).
I think media has a big impression on how they see African-Americans (you'll notice many people are scared to use the world "black:). Movies don't seem to have a negative impression, but many receive national news from New York or Los Angeles where they have more diverse populations and black people MAY be percieve to be more dangerous than they actually are.
I'm only speaking in my opinion from what I've seen over the years. But, I hope it helps. (And no, we're not ALL that ignorant)

To be perfectly honest I think racism comes more form Black people to white than the other way
I have a mixed race family and have friends of all different races but I have never come across a more racist race than black in particular African Black (not so much Caribbean)
They are totally against whites and inter racial families they hate us (that is my experience)
I know a lady that is from Nigeria and has been here for over 30 years she freely admits that Nigerians are no good and will take you for every penny (that is their own people) and yet she out right condemns her son for marrying a White lady and constantly abuses her both in front and behind her back and that is just one person I know of
No in my experience Black Africans are more racist

I know a few black people I consider good friends. They don't treat me any differently because of my skin. I have also been attacked by several black people and robbed. The same goes for whites also. People are fuc*ked, race or creed is truley irrelevant. Racism is ugly no matter who is involved.
Media is usually misinformed, or are just trying to sell their story. The facts are usually twisted for better ratings, or to sell more papers. I think they help in perpetuation of racism. They are biased!

No, there are no white people (unless you have a medical problem). We are all some shade of brown because of the melanin in our skins. I personally am beige. My Scandinavian relatives are cream, my gorgeous ex boyfriend from Ghana was dark chocolate.
The sooner we get away from this black/white thing - which incidently is very divisive - the sooner racism will become a thing of the past.

I didn't until I was 20! If you can believe it. But I grew up in a teeny tiny town where it was all white, except for the occasional foreign exchange student and one Cortinez family (see, I still remember their name).
When I met my husband, who is of Mexican descent, I was very puzzled. He had a Spanish name, and he had black hair, but he didn't have an accent....so obviously he wasn't Mexican!
Obviously, except for the Cortinez family, my only knowledge of Mexicans is what I saw on TV. They drove big cars, wore bandannas, belonged to gangs, and had accents.

You would think that with all the racism.
I think there are still many Whites who have never gotten to know a Black person personally. So they continue to believe the stereotypes and such, and remain ignorant.
