Will we ever see the situation where one country will dominate the supply of a product considered essential around the world?

I do not see it in the form of one country because no one country has enough of any supply to accommodate its own people and supply the entire world. However, several countries joining together as in "cartel" can have a major impact around the world as we see now with the oil cartel.Such is possible in other commodities because the U.N. has no ability to stop or prevent it.

My answer is NO. The only "essential" products necessary for survival of the human race is:

1. Air
2. Water
3. Food
4. Shelter

All countries have these items. The true question is, does every country have ENOUGH to sustain its' population?

That is happening now. The US controlls the world corn market. Unfortunately that corn is being used not to feed people but to make ethanol as a fuel for our auto fleet. This immoral policy will result in the starvation of millions of third world people who will find themselves priced out of the food market. Environmentalists will fell good about themselves when this happens because they can claim we are doing our part to slow global warming. liberals will love it because there will be less of the wrong kind of people cluttering up the planet, ADM will love this because of all the money they make through ethanol production. Corn farms will be gleefull in their new found wealth because of the hike in corn prices. This of course will cause more hatred of the US as peoples around the world start to figure out why the price of a tortia has increased 400% in the last 6 months, but it is all going to be worth it for the worship the earth crowd.

coming from a Christian background, I believe so. There are several books in the Bible that talk about a 1 world government, 1 world religion, and a 1 world currency.

Steps are slowly being taken to reach the last one with the decline in the U.S. dollar, and the rise of the Euro.

I feel that the 1 world religion isn't too far fetched either--more of a melting pot of all the world religions.

I don't think so. What we lack in our country another has, and, vice-versa. We could survive with what we have and learn t live without the rest. But It's great to have the resources of what the other countries have to offer, and, vice-versa. We need them as much as they need us. Too bad we can't all get a long in peace and love they neighbor.

we already do. Grain. We just want the whole world to like us or we would cut off the supplies specially in the middle east. Think about it, can grain grow in sand?
