Christina Aguilera. For such a tiny little thing, she has a VERY strong voice! I think she would be doing much better if she hadn't been pushed into the business at such a young age though. We met her at MGM studios in 2000, and she is SO sweet and friendly! Looks completely different than she does on stage - dresses in regular clothes just like every body else! Such a sweet heart - not an ounce of conceit or smugness, unlike Bratney Spears!

Even though they both have had their share of problems, both Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey are right there as two of the greatest ever. You also can't discount older artists such as Aretha Franklin or Chaka Khan. I also think time will show us that Christina Aguilera is one of the greatest voices we will ever hear.

Olqa Borodina and Cecilia Bartolli, by far. They're both operatic sopranos.

Or of you want to ignore opera because it really isn't fair to compare normal people to opera singers, I'd have to say Tarja Turunen. She's the vocalist for the band Nightwish (or she was until they fired her last year)

There's been a lot; Whitney, Celine, etc, but of right now, i'd have to say it's a toss up between Christina Aguilera & Evenescence's Amy Lee.

The best male voice ever (to me,anyway) was definitely Freddie Mercury. Right now, i guess i'd have to say...Clay Aiken???

the best female vocalist/musicians i've got ever known are as follows: Kim Deal: initially with 'The Pixies' (one in all my favourite bands of all time), yet she additionally had a kick-*** band called 'The Breeders' too. Kim Gordon: from 'Sonic young babies'. Johnette Napolitano: from Concrete Blond. surprisingly sufficient - i think of all of them play bass too.

Joan Osborne, KD Lang, Emmylou Harris...they all blow everyone else mentioned out of the water.

If you asked these other artists who they bow down to and pay homage, it would likely be one of the three I mentioned.

Patti Labelle, because shes 60 years old and she still belts it the same way she always did. She makes it look so easy to hit those notes.

I would say Amy Lee from Evanescence. She's also pretty good looking.
