If he is indeed guilty of the crime he has been charged with, then YES.

You bet it's appropriate if he's proven guilty. Intent to kill is just a tiny step below actually killing. Intent means you'd do it if you could and that makes you a danger to society.

Absolutely. He knew, as a military member, what the consequences of his actions. He would have fared better if he had committed his crimes as a civilian.
