It not only is possible but your company can also count your keystrokes, time when you are on and off your PC, track your Internet browsing and file any electronic message (IM or e-mail) that you send or receive. And they do. I used to train new customer service representatives and almost the first thing I told them was this: think of the computer as a bulletin board...anything you do with it is visible for everyone to see. Don't write, receive or browse anything at work that you don't want your boss or coworkers to see.

Yes. There are a dozen ways; from keylogging programs to packet sniffing to remote access (they can even view your desktop in real time without your knowledge). There are scores of third party programs, some of which are specifically designed to record instant messages. We're using some of this software for one of our clients to record every e-mail and every instant message generated on the network. If it goes in, or out, the administrator has a copy. Every month I compile all of it into a searchable database, archive all the messages and send a copy to the "boss" to review.

of course , but not quite how your thinking , as a system admin , if i suspect abuse of our network i can "shadow" that user using a vnc connection in stealth mode , and if need be screen print everything , or place a keylogger on the machine . never use messenger at work to do anything but work related business and save your self the hassle

of course

they might even have a key logger storing every keystroke you make...they own the computer and don't need to disclose any of that to you ahead of time.

...best bet is not to trash your company or boss while using their network.
