My kids are doing a project for school. They need to know what souvenirs or artifacts they would get if they traveled to Davenport, Iowa. Thanks

Colonel Davenport. ... Also, between Davenport, Ia and Rock Island IL is an island .. The Rock Island Arsenal. One of the first bridges to span the Mississippi river, and built by the federal government. The bridge is still in use today and is a double decker bridge ... vehicle traffic on the bottom, railroad traffic on the top ... and it has a draw span that opens to allow the barges through. The Rock Island Arsenal makes munitions for the military.

Buffalo Bill (William Cody) was born in a log cabin in Scott County (Davenport is in Scott County) near LeClaire. There's a museum in LeClaire. The very last Wild West Show was held in Davenport, Iowa in 1913. Four years later Cody died.

Since Davenport is but one of four cities (hence the term "Quad Cities") that are located near each other, any visit to one of them would likely result in a visit to at least one of the other three (Moline & Rock Island, IL, & Bettendorf, IA) The headquarters of John Deere are located in Moline. Davy Crockett travelled through Iowa and stayed for one winter in Davenport. There is a log cabin he built along the bluffs of the river. The third Tuesday of May is designated Davy Crockett Day and it is a big celebration for schoolkids to wear coonskin caps to school that day.

Souvenier you would bring back from Davenport is a Davy Crockett coonskin cap.

It's known for the unusual path of the Mississippi River. It's the only place where the Mississippi runs from east to west.

Good on you for helping your kids with their homework!

I'd only be too happy to help, if I wasn't in a completely different country!

lol
