There is always the same car parked a few doors down from my house, a guy sits in it and reads the paper, one time I walked past and noticed him asleep in it.

I didnt think anything of it at first, but now im seeing him and his car at other locations, a few times close to work, at the shops. He followed me one day, after i slowed down and started following him, he pulled into a side street and pretended to be looking at a map book, like he was lost.

I tried walking up to his car while he was outside my house, but he just drove away, and I'v caught him snooping around my rubbish bin on rubbish days, I think he looks thru it!

Some nights he shines a laser pointer thru my windows, when im watching tv, or when im in bed, I get phonecalls from private numbers, and they just hang up when I answer.

I feel like im going crazy!! Does this sound like a private investigator? Can I stop it? What are my rights?

Its definitely sounds like an investigator. Sadly, since it is modern times, you don't really have any rights. But some ways to stop it is by hiding in your rubbish bin until he comes to look through it, then jump out and slap him and run away. After a couple times, he should stop.

It could be a PI or even a cop but he shouldn't be pointing lasers through your windows. Are you involved in any type of insurance claim for a medical condition like a bad back or something? Any claims in for a worker's compensation claim? Maybe getting a divorce? All these cases would suggest a PI.

Call the cops to have him checked out and tell the police you wish to remain anonymous to him but want contact from the police regarding the findings.

...plus you can play the whole harassment angle. If you let the police know that you could be under investigation by someone it could make you look more guilty than you really are. Besides, alot of those guys are friends with police officers.

If you let them know you're being harassed by someone, that's a whole different ball of wax and it puts the burden of proof on the dumbass that likes to shine a laser through your window.

Take down the license plate number and call in a complaint to the police see where it goes. Of that complaint you might obtain a restraining order if enough information warrants the paperwork. Record your findings on video, mark times and dates, keep logs.

Get the plates and call the police. There is a possibility he may be an undercover cop though.

Call the police. They'll be able to tell you what your rights are. If he's a P.I., he has to have a license and he's not supposed to be disturbing your life.

Call the cops and tell them you think this guy is stalking the neighborhood children.
