corresponding oxoacide is Hypochlorous acid or HOCl

Iodine is a blue black solid and a purple gas. It sublimes and does not have a liquid state. Dissolved in alcohol it is called tincture of iodine and is used as an antiseptic.(Betadine solution used in hospitals, stains skin brown)

hypoiodite IO, HIO, hypoiodous acid
