I'd want to buy a Creative Zen V mp3 player, but it reuires a Pentium III 1ghz processor in my computer. My laptop doesn't manage that. Is it an absolute necessity, and if so, what for?

most MP3 players have their own software they install on a PC to allow for music conversion and easy upload. If you already have your music in an MP3 format and can access the drive directly through "my computer" then you really don't need the software

Probably to be able to run the software that is required for the Creative Zen V to be able to download songs from your PC. Not sure if it's an absolute necessity or if it'll just take an older processer longer to run the program. I'd contact Creative Labs directly and ask them, just to be sure.

It may be needed for the software required to transfer MP3's from your computer to the player. It also act as a music oraganizer/player similar to Itunes or Media Player.

You could always buy the mp3 player and try it if it doesn't work then take it back.
