is it because of some virus? i scan my computer with AVG and it says that there is no threat detected,

no. i dont insert any disk. and this has been going on for like a month now. both drives C and D have autoplay

All it means is that if a file named autorun.inf exists it will execute. This is used primarily for removable media, like when you insert a CD the autorun will launch a setup menu.

auto play will allow you to choose what happens when you put a disc in the drive.

for example....you can set a dvd disc to auto launch your player of choice and initate the movie, or a basic data disc...you could choose to open the disc explorer.

It's a windows feature not a virus. You can set different types of discs to auto-run or not with independant options for various types

autoplay is for disks
you can turn it off if you want
but I suggest not to
