the only chance you have of knowing if the person is trustworthy is by their eBay score. If they have a good number and a good percentage.
If you think they are at all legitimate contact them and ask them to set up a private auction listing in eBay with a "buy it now" price. Tell them as soon as they send you the link you will commit to buy the item. Then you would still be going through eBay and would have some protection that way.
But bottom line, if they are a scammer they could STILL be scamming you even if it's through an auction. But it's better than making a backdeal with them. Which goes against eBay's policies and could get both you and them suspended from eBay.

If you make the purchase outside of Ebay you will not be protected. I have made over 30 purchases through Ebay and have been pleased. Two things I would not buy online are electronics and event tickets. You would be better to purchase through professional ticket sellers, listed in major papers sports sections, not personal ads. There have been a lot of counterfeit ticket scams, you don't know until it is too late, when you go to the event. Good Luck.

Report this to Ebay, I'm pretty sure that this is against the ebay rules- if not a scam/hijacked account.
If you do not buy the item through ebay, it is NOT covered by the Ebay protection plan (dubious as it is).
There should be a link somewhere on YOUR ebay page--do not use the link on the email if there is one-to report this Ebay seller.
Good Luck,
Just a reminder NEVER EVER click on a link from ebay---go to your ebay page. Whatever message you have received will be duplicated on that page.

Do not buy anything "off auction". This is how people are ripped off! E-bay has rules about this and the seller, if indeed the person who wrote to is the seller can be banned from E-bay for this.
Sports tickets are a big area for fraud in E-bay.

resist the temptation....it's most likely a scam.
If this guy happens to be local then you could offer to meet and swap....I'm a yankee ticket holder and a lot of times if a game is next day or something meet someone at a starbucks or something. If he's not local or doesn't want to meet than don't send him any money.

every seller has a history of sales and purchases on the left side of the sceen. check out his/her history and also check the feed back they've received from buyers. if they have no history then contact ebay regardless.

It is a scam of the Ebay rules because you will not be safeguarded under Ebay protection when you trade outside of their guidelines.
