Some people continue to demand that Mr. Bush be impeached because of Iraq, while making excuses for everyone else who saw the same intelligence and reached the same conclusions. I am not against investigations, but what I want to know is what really led us to this situation in Iraq? The problems with our intelligence did not begin with George Bush. If we are going to investigate, shouldn't we investigate the entire history of the affair, beginning the day after Gulf War I ended? You state that Mr. Bush lied and yet his quotes are very similiar to many other people prior to his tenure in office. My question is this. Are you really interested in the whole truth of the matter regarding Iraq? Or are you just interested in getting Bush?

Laughing Man Copycat: First I do not have any loyalty to anyone in government. The truth and facts trump all allegiances. Second like most liberals you ignore one basic fact. Nukes are not the only WMDs that Iraq was suspected to have.

Excellent question , & the best attempt at seeking some answers to this whole fiasco which aren't primarily partisan in nature. There is plenty of blame to go around, & none of the finger pointing gets us any nearer to a resolution that is expeditious , without exposing our troops to further casualties.

I can recall hearing Col Oliver North testifying before a congressional committee some time in the mid 80s & he was queried as to why he had such extensive security measures in place at his home'

His response was he wanted to protect his family from men seeking to kill him & any other Americans they possibly could . When North was asked for an example of such a person he identified a man named Osama bin Laden , as someone who would stop at nothing to kill & maim US citizens. That was 20 years ago......

The upper echelon know the truth. No investigation is necessary.
Our intelligence gathering community for 40 years was directed towards the USSR and Red China. Cold war if you will. They had no experience nor concern with the small Islamic nations. The cold war between the USSR and the USA kept these militant at arms length. We supplied one side and the Soviets supplied the other. When the USSR failed, our intelligence gathering community was beheaded, bewildered and behind. It has not caught up yet.

I don't think we have finished investigating the past war in Vietnam and Cambodia yet ?

Personally I don't need an investigation to know what is going on here.

Of the present era:

Margaret Thatcher started the war against terror long before the year 2000.

If you have an enemy that you cannot beat, what better way to eliminate him than to whisper false statements about him into a giant's ear.
Misinformation has been used in the spy world since forever. I don't think Bush lied. But, I do believe he acted on misinformation. He may have known it was misinformation and decided to use it to his advantage. Without being able to get inside Bush's head, there is no way we can ever know the truth.

I agree. We should be investigating not only Clinton, but Bush Sr. as well.

It sickens me to see all these people just pointing the finger at the current president, but want to overlook both Clinton and Bush Sr.

Vice President Cheney and his then-Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were personally informed in June 2003 that the CIA no longer considered credible the allegations that Saddam Hussein had attempted to procure uranium from the African nation of Niger, according to "Scooter" Libby trial. The President was informed but chose to ignore what they were inform and proceeded to mislead the public in order to get his agenda done. I provide a copy of Scooter's indictment to verify this. I know you conservatives are a loyal bunch...but you got some cold facts looking you in the face.

Yes. Let's be transparent about the Iraq intelligence and determine how it was manipulated.
