Just recently and it has gotten worse when I go to start my car it makes a loud schreeching noise, not a clicking that you normall would get from a starter. It takes several times of turning it over and just the right touch to get it started. Sometimes it helps if I slowly hit the gas pedal as I'm starting it but I'm worried one day it wont start and the noise is so embrassing when I try to start my car! What is wrong?? Starter? fuel filter? I'm not exactly car savvy! Is it going to be expensive?? Please help!!

what you are describing is the starter gear.It is a sprag clutch type and it isn't locking up the gear with the flywheel ring, pull starter and install new or rebuilt unit.

Your starter has stripped a pin in the gear, eventually it will lock up, it would be best if you change it out right away. Screeching is usually a sign of contact without lubrication. Whether metal to metal or some other type. If it continues you could damage your car further and it will cost a lot more to fix.

Hi, could be your starter motor,or your flexplate,(thats what the starter turns.Recommend taking it to a shop & have it diagnosed(remove the starter & inspect the flexplate.(if it is the flexplate yes it will be expensive as your transmission needs to be removed.Good luck
