Its your day. I think you should wear what you feel happiest with. I have known some lesbians that both wore dresses. I think one woman feeling like she has to wear a suit perpetuates the old "butch/fem" stereotype. I hope you have a beautiful wedding! Congratulations

I think you can do what you want. I think if you both wear dresses its fine. Just because you are lesbian, doesn't mean you are not feminine. Its your day and the lesbian marriages are fairly new in this country..so you really are setting a standard..do what you feel is right for the two of you. Oh, I just remembered..that on the show "friends" Ross's ex wife got remarried to her girlfriend and they both wore dresses. Not sure if that will help or hurt how you feel about it..lol Good luck and congrats!!

Firstly, congratulations! I don't think there is any reason why you shouldn't both wear dresses. If I (married) my girlfriend I'd probably wear a suit as even though I'm quite feminine I just don't do dresses. However, wear what you want, it's your big day! It sounds lovely if you are going to have your hair up with pearl pins in it. I'm not sure what you can do with shorter hair, maybe just style it nicely or wear a tiara if you want to make it really special. Good luck & I wish you much happiness. I'd love to marry my girlfriend, but she wants to wait as she's not ready.

Not at all! I've been to several commitment ceremonies where the couple have both been wearing dresses. Not to confuse reality with TV land, but did you see the episode of "Friends" where Ross' ex-wife married her partner? They were both wearing vintage gowns with beautiful old fashioned hats. The didn't match, but the styles were similar. I thought they both looked beautiful and their dresses were very appropriate. If that's not your style, that's cool too. I think you should each just find something you like and go with it. I think pearl pins would be lovely, and you don't really need to match - just complement each other. Don't let other people dictate what you should wear on your happy day. Congrats, by the way!

Congratulations!

I think both in dresses is fine, whatever you are happy with.

For your partner's short hair, how about a little tiara. You can even make your own. My aunt has short hair and she was married in a tiara with a little feather. It looked very 1920s and it was beautiful.

Are you going to be traditional and keep the dresses secret?

i thought civil partnerships were supposed to be fun, portraying the personalities of the people involved and not caring about old fashioned stereotypes and the 'white dress' etc. wear something that you love and feel comfortable. and she should do the same. just be yourself and be gorgeous. wear nothing if you want to!! find a beautiful dress that youd love to wear, get your hair done and that should be it.

If you are in the UK you should take a trip to Monsoon - they do stunning dresses - they do actually do wedding dresses but you could avoid them if you wanted to. However, if you do want something wedding like how about M&S, Adsa or BHS who all do a wedding range? Good luck - I hope you find the perfect outfits and have a great day!

When my gf and I got "married" almost 20 years ago we both wore dresses. The dresses were very different from the other, but the length and color (off-white) were the same. We both wore matching earrings and necklace. If your gf's hair is shorter and you want to put something in her hair, perhaps a beautiful headband/tiera. I believe it is ok not to match - but to let your individual personalities shine through.

A final word of advice - wear comfortable shoes!

My partner and I wore a nice suit each as we thought it would be for us. neither of us wear dresses. I wore a nice baby pink shirt and she wore baby blue.

We had a fabulous day and we were comfortable. I have looked around on some websites an saw ladies in dresses, gowns and suits.

when i was still waitressing there was a couple who who looked great in summer outfits. it is really what grabs you in the moment.
