Unfortunately it might depend on how many weeks pregnant your partner was when she lost the baby. Babies that die before 24 weeks are considered to be a miscarriage in the eyes of the law. Therefore, you may have problems getting compassionate leave if your employer is being very strict about it. This is because the fetus is not considered to be a 'person' as such before 24 weeks, there is no death certificate and therefore it could be hard to argue that there was a death.
If your partner was more than 24 weeks pregnant, you should be entitled to compassionate leave in the same way as if any immediate family member had died.
Hopefully, any employer will appreciate that this is a very hard time for you and will give you the time you need.

Probably not is the baby wasn't born.

I know as a mother I would have got my full maternity leave if the baby was still born after 28 weeks but before that nothing, other than what the doc is likely to sign you of for.

Considering fathers only get 2 weeks for the birth of a baby I doubt they will get anything for the loss but most companies would show some compassion.

But bear in mind if its your partner of parent that dies you only get about 3-4 days of work.

You are absolutely entitled to it! It is an emotional loss for you aswell! Any company that does not give it, is not worth working for! If they cause a stink - go to a local newspaper!

If you log onto the government web site under the listing for maternity leave,it states in there that you are still entitled to leave wether you be male or female.It also tells you how far gone you were in your pregnancy to how much time you are entitled off,aswell as still receiving payments.

you should be if your partner was over 24 weeks. my husband was given 4 weeks when we lost our baby boy. i went into pre term labour at 26 weeks we only had him for just under 7 hours. talk to your boss you may be surprised how supportive they can be. im so sorry

Of course you are. Losing a child or any family member is a terrible thing to go through and you need time to emotionally heal!!!! Just like if you were to be physically hurt, you need time to heal...If your company doesn't allow it, then I would not be working for that company anymore!!!

If it was a late-term miscarriage or the death of your infant then you should be able to have some kind of bereavement leave.

If it was an early term miscarriage, sorry.

Honestly I am not sure if you are entitled to it or not but any company that wouldn't give you time off in a case like this is not a company I would be working for any longer.

when i lost my baby my husband was only allowed 3 days off bcus i was only 21 weeks if i had been 24 weeks or over he could have had up to 6 months off. so sorry for your loss x

I'm so sorry about your baby...to answer your question yes you are entitled to compassionate leave after the loss of a loved one.
