hey... why the hell do people search for life on other planets...wen wat life for us is not necessary same every where....if we change the definition of life then non living things can laso be considered living....our range may be different from ours..i mean we can optically sense upto a max of range of say some thing as small as virus n some thing as big as galaxies... so there may be life other than ours on earth but it may be out of our range of our sense organs...

Life is just a process, as fire is a process. The fundies mistakenly think of life as something that comes into being suddenly. Like - there is no life, then somebody says "I want life!" and bingo, there is life.

In reality, there is a smooth transition between what we call life and what we consider non-life. There are self-replicating molecules, and there are DNA molecules, and there are the viruses. The transition from geological evolution to biological evolution is continuous.

Studying extraterrestrial sites is immensely valuable to us because we can compare what goes on there to what goes on here on our own planet, thereby understanding ourselves better. By examining various other sets of conditions, we can determine what differences are made when an environment is unlike our own. This gives us clues to how we developed here on Earth.

Human being is a social animal with lots of curiosity. So it is natural to search for life elsewhere. If you find some, it is a releif that you are not all alone in the universe. If you can't find .. well you can keep searching and get amused, and boast that you are the only intelligent species in the entire universe ... Either way you have some favourable point and it is no big loss.

Our imagination is unlimited, dreams come from what we imagine, so obviously many will dream in discovering the unknown, be it a cure for a desease or a trip to marth, "To go where no men has gone before" may sound a bit cliché but that's what many of us dream.

Btw, life=energy and everthing is energy!

Life is an ultimately futile process of coping with what we essentially lack. Think about it.
