once i let go of the fret, it stops ringing. and i have to pluck another note on another string while letting it ring but i can't seem to find a way to let it ring. the song i am playing is the quiet things that no one ever knows by brand new

i mean when i start playing on the other string i have to let go of the first one or my fingers will be blocking

If you're playing another note on another string, there's no reason why the ringing note should not still be fretted, and thus ringing.

Only let go of the fretted, ringing note when you absolutely have to.

You could be making it more difficult than you have to?

Perhaps you could find a different area on the neck where this passage would be much easier to play?

If you're pressing the string down completely over the fret, then your string will ring. If you get a short and choppy sound then you're not pressing the string down completely. And playing another string shouldn't affect it.

Your question is sort of confusing cos it seems as though you've answered yourself....?

so.... keep the note pressed (add a little vibrato...??) and it'll ring (or sustain).

Is that what you mean???
