It comes down to simple, elementary reason (and most people, especially people in religions, are at this level):
Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names (words) will NEVER hurt me.

Now do you get it......................................?

If you are offended by a word, then you become the word!
i.e. If someone calls you an idiot and you are offended, you're an idiot! If you're not an idiot, you WOULD NOT be offended!

remember.................................

Actions Speak Louder Than Words !

Now do you get it???

and then when you advance past the elementary level of thought, try creating a relationship with Our Creator!

I think the whole banning thing is more symbolic than anything. It's sending a message about using slurs. I'm thinking it's because of the double standard in the black community regarding the n word. It's getting too complicated with hip-hop using it all the time, and people in the black community using it, but it's not allowed to be said by whites. That only creates more racial tension.

But, I guess it's not necessary to actually ban it by law. But it shouldn't be a double standard anymore about it. If black are going to call themselves the n word, they can't get mad if another race uses the term. And not like maliciously or anything. I know a white girl who dates black men primarily so she uses the n word sometimes and, at first, it was wierd, but I don't really care because I know she's not racist.

I guess it just depends.

AMEN. I don't like the "n" word one bit. And words do hurt.

I am reminded of a story: A little boy was angry all the time and said hurtful things. His dad said, "everytime you are angry, instead of speaking go hammer a nail into the fence." And so this went on for months until dad came out one day and said, "ok son have you learned to control your anger now?" In reply the son said, "yes dad." Dad then said to go remove ALL of the nails out of the fence. After all of the nails were removed he asked his son what was wrong with the fence. The son replied "there are many holes in it." Dad said,"see son, all those nails were words. Even if you take the words back, there are still holes were the words were."

I tell my kids this story all of the time.

Using the "N" word only shows ignorance. Even if it is used in slang. It was used as a derogatory comment to only insult a certain ethnic group. I would hope that we, as a whole, have gotten past those times of turmoil and struggles.

This word WAS banned a couple of weeks ago.
That word being banned was necessary and a historic moment too bad it wasn't publicized more.

No. The Gov has no right telling me what I can and cannot say. You are right, it's not a "nice" word, but so are so many others. we don't live in a "nice" world. Additionally, if you want people to stop using it, stop acting the part!

How can you "ban" a word?

Words can be looked down upon within society, as that word is, but there is no way of "banning" a word.
