I'm really looking for wooden toys. Probably stuff that was made by parents or a local handyman. Any help (descriptions, pictures, websites) would be greatly appreciated.

The Williamsburg Marketplace sells period correct toys that have been thoroughly researched and documented. Here's the link to 18th century toys on their marketplace website http://www.williamsburgmarketplace.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResultsView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10607&langId=-1&topSelectedId=15848&secondarySelectedId=13836&grandparentCatgroupId=13836

In the realm of wooden toys they have a bilbo catcher (not easy, I've played with one), a hoop and stick, table top nine pins, Wooden Dominos, a wooden top, and a cup and ball game. They are all nice, high quality items.

These toys date to the late 18th/early 19th century.

If you are looking for toys from the later 19th century (late 1800s) there is a lot here http://www.ushist.com/props/toys-and-games.htm and the site does have pictures and historic information.

I know there is a store in Colonial Williamsburg, VA that sells old fashion toys. SInce they dont believe in anything modern, everything is hand made. Try googling Amish Toys.

When I was a kid I played with these Lincoln Logs, that my father gave me. I guess his father gave them to him. Supposedly all kinds of people had Lincoln Logs back in the day. They were like wooden legos. You should be able to find them at Antique stores or Antique and collectible fairs. They're still pretty popular, just really old and hard to find. Since they're old they're valuable too.
