it runs on a battery (lithium ion)
after you use the battery, it will be drained of energy.
in order to refill it, you need to charge it with the adapter that comes with your purchase.
it can play right out of the box without charging for an hour or so, mostly for demonstration purposes.
a four hour charge will be decent enough, and will allow around 10 hours of gameplay
you'll know it's done charging when the orange light turns off

Yes but that's a good thing. You don't have to spend a lot of money buying batteries for it constantly.
