All data on a computer is represented in binary with the smallest base unit called a bit. Bits can be 0s or 1s and nothing else. A byte is a group of bits with a length of 8, looking similar to this 01010101. When dealing with computer data all prefixes, ie Kilo,Mega,Giga, etc., correlate to the powers of 2 (AKA base 2 number system) and not the base 10 number system that we all know as the decimal system (0,1,2,3...8,9).
1 GB=2^30 bytes
1 MB=2^20 bytes
1 KB=2^10 bytes
Doing the math starting with 1GB down to the equivalent size in KB.
1 GB=1,024 MB=1,048,576 KB

One character in the computer is represented by 8 Bits.
8 Bits = 1 Bite
So
1024 Bites= 1 KB (Killo Bite)
1000 KB = 1 MB (Mega Bite)
1000 MB = 1 GB (Giga Bite)
