It's a (394km long, 144km wide) island 'approximately 100km south east of China'.
The centre and east part of Taiwan is mostly covered by mountains and forests, the western side has gently sloping plateaus.
The very southern most tip of Taiwan actually lies in the tropic of Cancer, because of this Taiwan doesn't really have 4 distinct seasons. The majority of Taiwan has two seasons -the southern most part is warm all year-round.

It is bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by the South China Sea and the Luzon Strait, to the west by the Taiwan Strait and to the north by the East China Sea. The island is 394 kilometers (245 miles) long and 144 kilometers (89 miles) wide and consists of steep mountains covered by tropical and subtropical vegetation.

Some answers above are just ridiculous. Taiwan is not located in China, nor is it a province of China. Jeez...Taiwan is a separate island from the Chinese continent, and these two countries are different in that China is under communist rule, and Taiwan is a democracy. I'd love to write more about the differences, but I don't want to start a war here.

ah...... dud you don't know where is Taiwan..? almost world know about Taiwan..... not for only its products and kind peoples but conflict with China also...Please buy a world atlas .... then you can see in china sea..... a small leave of a tree.... (between china and japan) its Taiwan .... the place of kind heart people........ your geography is poor dear.pls don't mind it.... where you live ???/
