2 gallons is the norm for a low fuel light, although our 06 Accord seems to come on at about 3 gallons. It all depends on your fuel mileage and the type of driving you do. If you have 1.5 gallons left (never run the car empty) and you get 25 mpg, you can go about another 30 miles safely.

Just put gas in when the light comes on. I have pushed one car just a little further when the light came on and I ran out of gas.

To get your miles per gallon (MPG) Fill your tank and reset the trip odometer. At your next fill-up, divide the mileage driven by the gallons used.

Example: 250 miles/ 10 gallons of gas= 25 mpg.

Not sure what engine/transmission your Cavalier has, but the EPA rated mileage is between 22-25 city MPG and 32-36 highway MPG. As usual, what the car is rated for and what it gets all depends on your driving style, highway or city driving and terrain.

As has been said, you likely have 25-30 miles left, but I would suggest that you should not let it get that low, as it is hard on the fuel pump. A new fuel pump will run around $3-400. Fill it up at 1/4 tank.

Once the light is one you have around a gallon to a gallon and a half of gasoline left, I would say that you may have around 20 to 30 miles before you run out.

It matters not just on the type of car, but the exact car. Also the gas meter is never terribly acurate so honestly there is no posible way to know. If you get a light on, head to a gas station imidiatly, because breaking down will cost you a lot more than a tank of gas.

It really depends on the car. But I would not recommend to run low for extended time. In tank fuel pumps are cooled by gas and when running low, the pump can overheat and die on you. Then its not fun getting stuck waiting for tow truck and wasting time and spending more money than a tank full of gas.

Check your service manuel. Most cars have 1-2 gallons once the light goes on; anything more than 15-20 miles and you are headed for trouble IMHO.

dont let your fuel supply get that low, when you get down to 1-2 gallons the tube is picking up all of the gunk that is in the bottom of the tank and sending it to the engine where it does not belong. this gunk causes excellerated wear and unneccessary hastle trying to figure out why the car wont start when you need it the most.

It depends.... if you have your owner manual it will say in there. I have a 2003 Durango and when my fuel light comes on I have 3 gallons left.... not alot for my fuel eating monster! LOL!

Every car is different. I wouldn't count on more than 25 miles if I were you.

depends on your driving style, how fast you go, accelerate... also the trafic, type of road, hills, temp, lots of things
