A coil has n turns per unit length. It is l units long and has cross sectional area of A. Inside the coil, therefore, we've got flux of BA. B is the magnetic field strength. So the number of flux linkages is nlBA=un^2liA. Flux divided by current is inductance L. so

L=un^2lA
