This is with reference to NASA's selection.....
also it might be helpful if you could tell me about the rigour of the interview.
Also how many 'naturalised' americans have made it through the selection process?

As an American, you can always apply to be an astronaut. However, the selection criteria is very high, so unless you have a very distinguished military career or scientific background that would lend to space exploration, you're unlikely to ever to to space on NASA's ticket.

The physical and psychological tests are rigorous, as they only send the most qualified into space. However, I've always thought that anyone riding a giant hydrogen bomb into orbit had to have a few screws loose in their head.

Apparently, they don't anymore. They look at your credo's and decide. But wait, I get a sense that all that is about to change, NASA wants no more Astronuts.
