Do you really think that this is an attempt by leftists to secularize society, as Bill O'Reilly would have you believe? Personally, I think it would just be the end result of a large part of society trying to make the best of a situation over which they have no control.

To Jesus Loves You: Let me fill you in on the story of Christ. He was a guy that said that he was going to die for you. He knew he was going to be ridiculed and persecuted for making that claim, but he never backed down, even once. He dined with the poor and the social outcasts, not rich men or kings. There is no way he would see the pain in the hearts of homosexuals that have been ostricized their whole lives and ignore it, or cast them into a lake of fire for it. He's a little bit more understanding than you give him credit for. So yes, God does judge homosexuals, but as people, not as gays. Maybe you need to get right, because if you don't accept His teachings, you don't accept Him.

Easy Ed - the Bible passages that you've quoted refer to promiscuity, not homosexuality. But thanks for playing.

Ok, where to begin. Well, I can only discuss this issue from the point of view of being Canadian and how it came about and why.

First, as someone posted, we pay taxes

Second, as someone else posted, why should the government be involved.

Now the answer: Because we pay taxes and are citizens, we have, by right of law, the expectation that certain benefits which are forthcoming in regards to legal status and the rights thereof are concerned. The right to marry, may appear on it's face, to be a simple religious function. However when the government gave certain rights and legal benefits to married couples, they then were bound to offer similar rights to those in similar situations. Consider, that in a simple relationship, where no marriage exists legally, there is no protection of property rights, inheritance rights, or even medical rights. So the question then becomes, if gays cannot marry, yet are in comitted relationships and they wish for their surviving partner to have ownership of the estate, they have no legal standing. The family of one of the partners can litterally 'steal' the survivor benefits, inheritance and other such chattle.

Those who say civil unions address these concerns are inccorrect. A civil union does guarantee survivor rights and benefits nor does it protect the partner from possible litigation in regards to said benefits and/or property.

The government, for better or worse, has taken the state of marriage and made it a legal and financial entity. As such, gay men and women, as tax payers, who have expectation of both representation and legal status, are currently denied this. The only solution is one of two options. The gorvernment either grants marriage so as to fulfill it's constitutional obligations to all of it's citizens equally or remove itself from marriage and allow churches to perform them. Note: the United Church, Unitarian, and MCC all legal churches would then be free to perform same sex marriages anyway.

In conclusion, it would appear that the US will need to follow one of these roads because to do nothing would deprive legitimate relationships of their legal status and protections thereof.

Sorry for the long answer but it is a complex issue, which happily has been resolved in my own country.

People keep trying to claim that same sex marriage is something new, it isn't. Until it was banned by the Pope in the 10th century same sex marriage was perfectly acceptable. It still is in many parts of the world where Abrahamic religions have no influence. What people are trying to do is get the same civil rights as everyone else, which was, supposedly, what this country was founded to accomplish.

If i grew to become into in charge: The civil and legal concerns, inclusive of inheritance, visitation rights, tax prestige and so on, that at present elect what we call "marriage" may be obtainable to everybody in spite of sexual decision. Civil marriage may be a settlement rely with standardized words (as to age of consent, degree of consanguinuity, and so on. which at present selection between states) and can disguise each and all of the legal rights and household projects. The civil marriage may be finalized because of the fact the minute the couple signs and indicators an contract to realize this formerly a court docket clerk and/or yet another suited professional. non secular marriage may be non-obligatory, and can be thoroughly as much as the couple and any corporation or minister they ask to accomplish the provider for them. No church or minister may be compelled to accomplish something they locate objectionable, yet neither could they deny a pair the superb suited to circulate someplace else for such provider. permit the state take care of civil concerns; permit the church homes take care of concerns of the spirit. this is in basic terms my handle it. i'm a legal Wiccan minister, authorized to accomplish marriages, and can be better than keen to accomplish gay or lesbian marriages if it have been legal in my state.

A lot of you Christians have a very very narrow view of things. Please remember one thing your religion is, no matter how much you deny it, controlled by the Vatican and they are in possession of a lot of books of the bible. So what you know is only half a story.
Gay marriage. Why can we not get married? We can love. We also want to make commitments to one another, so why can't we?
There is no conspiricy theory here. Just a group of people wanting equal acknowledgement and right for their relationships.

all it is is an attempt to be recognized and treated like equal citizens! I pay my taxes and my bills on time. I work full time. Why can't I marry the woman I love? We're in a committed, monogamous relationship. We're registered domestic partners. We've had a committed ceremony. But, we are still separate but not equal. None of this "civil union" crap! They're just trying to throw us a bone and tell us it's a steak!
We want to get married!

So long as they pay taxes, I don't care what they do. That's pretty much what it boils down to my little book of reasoning. Besides, marriage is about love, not Man/Woman mating ritual. So, have fun, wear a rubber, and always say goodbye in the morning.

It is not the marriage that's the problem. Can you imagine the
divorce rate. Before you do it, make sure you have a clause
concerning separation of assets.

what follows is why i don't endorse same sex marriages or believe that they should ever be allowed...

Romans Chapter 1... (21) for although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearth were darkened. (22) although they claimed to be wise, they became fools (23) and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal men and birds and animals and reptiles. (24) therefore God game them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity of the degradation of their bodies with one another (25) they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator - who is forever praised. (26) because of this God gave them over to shameful lusts. even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones (27) in the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. men committed indecent acts with other men, and received it themselves the due penalty for their perversions.
