Because the cost of living is going up all the time but our salarys aren't, we keep getting hit with large taxes and utilities and we just cannot earn enough to keep up with it. I can see why people are happy to live off benifits their entire lives, i don't condone this at all and have only ever been out of work once myself but i could see at the time how much help there is financially when on the dole and how people can slip into it permenantly.

because they feel that they have the right to have what other people have
"beyond their means" could mean many things.......
it could mean just going to a movie once in a while, or getting a hair cut once every couple of months. It could mean getting a pizza once a week.........that would be "beyond their means" to some people... should they never do this...
some people do spend excessively, but who is to say what that is.......... obviously it can be apparent........but for a single parent, for instance, taking their children to a hockey game and letting them have a meal out once in a while can be "excessive" when you have no $$$$, but should they make their kids stay home forever..................... loaded question.........and seems somewhat judgmental.......you would have to walk in the poor person who is struggling to survive in this world on a day to day basis just to survive shoes to properly answer.....

It's all keeping up with the Jones' and a lack of patience - The only thing I have on credit is my house....If you work out how much your monthly payments are for everything on credit - you could have bought what you wanted within a couple of months anyway, rather than paying twice as much on interest

I think much of it is people just being irresponsible. I've seen so many news reports about 'underprivileged' kids living in over crowded homes. No one ever asks the parents why they had six kids in a two bedroom house! (By the way, it's 'their' not 'there' in this context. Sorry to everyone who thinks I'm being petty, but I spent three years at university studying grammar and that mistake is one of my pet hates!)

And that is where the dreaded credit card comes in - people don't wanna feel left out so if mate has got new phone, u want one, if kids friend gotta PS2 or Nintendo DS Lite ur kids gonna want one so u get it. It's the way of the world now very sad but very true

It's mostly the media that tells us we NEED things. The advertisers pay the media, the media promotes what we don't need. Some idiot falls for it and buys something they can't afford, then his neighbour says "Oh in that case I must need one of them too!" Generating more money for the advertisers, who give the media more money to promote even more junk we don't really need.
