My husband is scottish and I lived there for over a year and I don't understand why people label them tight. Although maybe it comes from the the fact that they don't suffer fools gladly and are quick to question something if they feel they are being ripped off. Which I think is a good trait perhaps if we all had a little of that we wouldn't get overcharged and ripped so often!!

I know a few Scots people & I don't find them tight at all.
I have found most to be friendly, caring & generous.
I think it arose as over the past hundreds of years whereby the English have paid a lot of money in taxes to keep the Scots people as at one time their economy was in a bad shape.
I also think that many English people resent some comments made by high profile Scots commentators where comments have been made when they would wish a foreign sports team to beat the English.
I do not like to hear these comments as if England are out of a particular competition I would then go on & support the Irish Welsh & Scots.
I think it is a great country & it is a shame that some Scots people want to break away from the United Kingdom.
I don't blame them though with Blair as their Prime Minister also.

Because they have to squeeze their buttocks together in the extreme cold, also the god awful diet of haggis (ugh) and whisky, and being tight means pissed out of their brains because of the awful football they have to watch and endure. Mind you the big English subsidy might ease their pain a bit.
Their oil? who paid for the exploration, the sinking of deep wells, the platforms and recovery, the pipelines and underground storage facilities? We did!

I have no idea and was only made aware of this label on a recent holiday.
I might be because we have had so much nicked from us i.e. oil.
