White pepper is simply black pepper with the outer hull removed.
If you want "better" tasting pepper, go for either Malabar pepper or Tellicherry pepper. Both come from the South West coast of India, and are considered the best in the world. The Tellicherry pepper corns are from the same plant as the Malabar but are the top 10% of peppercorns, the ripest and largest. Unfortunately, both Malabar and Tellicherry are difficult to find, but well worth the hunt.
