I have a Compaq Presario that I added memory to about a year ago. As my sister has the same computer and we both are Sims 2 fiends, we have decided that the 768 MB of RAM we have now is insufficient. I was going to get a portable hard drive since both spaces for memory modules are now occupied but someone told me to have a new internal hard drive put in because I have an empty expansion bay. I'm not sure how any of it works and would appreciate some help in deciding please.

Ok, you are comparing apples and oranges.

A hard drive is storage space. RAM is the memory your program runs in while it is operating. Think of it like this:

You have a house. In your house you have many boxes of decorations. You store the different boxes of decorations for different holidays in your basement (that would be your hard drive).

You have five windows (that would be RAM) to put decorations (programs) in; now you actually have room in your basement to store fifteen decorations for Christmas, fifteen for Easter and so on, BUT you only have five windows, so you can only put up five decorations at a time, no matter how many you store in your basement.

You then think, "Aha, I'll make the basement (the hard drive bigger) and get more decorations". Yes, that will work but you won't be able to get any more in the windows, you still have only five windows. You would need to install more windows (RAM) to put up more decorations.

So, leaving that analogy alone for now, you would need to take out the RAM memory you currently have in your desktop and buy upgrades at 1 gb each (unless they have larger modules that will fit your machine). If you are running XP, I believe you can upgrade to 4 gbs of RAM. That should improve your game tremendously.

Buy enough Ram to fill all your empty slots. I would recommend 1-2 GBS but these are in the 100's of dollars

Yes, you need to install more RAM. there would be only two slots available so try installing big amount RAM like one or two GB. They may cost much but good for computers operation.
