The question likely should ask whether a pound of peanuts releases more energy than a pound of cashews when burned because it eliminates the problem of the size of the nuts being burned. Scientists would likely work in grams of nuts. The answer likely depends on which nut has the most oil but a good clue is to check the calorie count from food labels (calories per serving x servings in container/weight in container) or from food calorie tables. Cashews are slightly ahead but it may depend on how the nuts are prepared (roasted in oil?). BTW some peanut butter has the peanut oil removed (because it is valuable) and it is replaced with cheaper oil. Cashew oil from unroasted nuts is worse than poison ivy and must be carefully handled. It has been used as transmission oil in cars (after roasting?).
