I think, to encapsulate it into one sentence, I'de say this book is about man's absolute stubborn refusal to give up on something, regardless of the negative outcome.

Personally, I don’t like Hemingway’s work (although, admittedly, I haven’t read a lot of his work, but I didn’t care for what I read). But, a lot of people do like it.

This question would fit better under Arts & Humanities--Books & Authors

the first thing that got into my mind is somekinda moby dick story. but when our teacher addressed us that it will a book report, i have to read it, and now i know, it is not moby dick, it is a story that is somehow has deep english language but a true reflection of what life can/will be

Anything written by Hemmingway was horrible. I consider myself very well read but man....I can't see how anyone could enjoy anything that man wrote.
