My husbands family is large and every month it seems that we are going to an uncles funeral.
I made my husband an appointment for a complete physical, and he has high cholestral.
I never fry any foods, and I have checked the labels on everything in the house and they say 0% cholsertal. Besides exercise what else can I do to help him get this down? He is also a sweets-acholic.

There is a large genetic component in cholesterol levels. My Dad ate lots of fried everything, cheese, butter, eggs, and red meat and never had a total cholesterol over 180. My Mom would look at a pat of butter and hers would go over 250...go figure.
Your husband would probably benefit greatly from taking a trial course of statin type drugs to see how he would respond to it. Proper treatment and management of his condition is key to a better and longer life. Remember, half of heart attack victims are at normal weights and have "normal" to low cholestrol levels. Good Luck

He needs to eat leafy green vegetables, plenty of oats, whole grains and drink lots of water. I would also recommend excercise. His weight has nothing to do with cholesterol. Also, cholesterol can come in a variety of foods that are not fried. You did good by checking the labels in your house but how often does he eat at restaurants? I was able to watch what I ate and excercised to lowered mine by 15 points in 2 months. There is also a point where family history comes into play so there may be a different "normal" range for him.

High chlorestrol calls for medication, plenty of exercise & a lot of green vegetables. You haven't mentioned if he smokes & is overweight. It should be a big NO for smoking & long walks or jogs for reducing the weight.. It seems that all the hectic activity at home is somehow leving him tense. Go for a long holiday - just the two of u.

a glass of red wine with dinner will help with the ldl. how high is high? maybe will need meds, but only AFTER diet and exercise is exausted. I ate a dozen eggs a day for a year (swear to g-d), and my total cholest was 191. cardio 3x a week. kill the sweets.

The complete physical is an excellent idea. That will give you the information you need for a next step. He needs more vegetables in his diet but you already know that

the same thing is happening to my entire family... they are all dying off... the OBVIOUS cause of all this is DIET. 100% diet. just look at the family parties. they are centered around eating bad foods. Americans and EVERYONE seriously needs a wakeup... MY current diet... is fresh fruits and leafy green vegetables... for more info check out -> www.arnoldehret.org

send him to a doctor. no matter how healthy your diet, you can still have high cholesterol. the doctor can prescribe meds that will aide in the body's ability to reduce bad cholestrol. sometimes diet and exercise alone are just not enough. Good luck to you both.

He may need to go on something like Lipitor, as he may produce naturally high levels of cholesterol
