Walmart is a very successful retail giant. It will greatly effect communities that do not yet have a supermarket. The competition that walmart will bring will surely compromise small shops and cause many shops to go out of business if walmart is able to provide better quality products at a low price. In India the products that supermarkets provide may seem better quality but slightly more expensive instead of seeming decent quality and low priced as is in the United States. Anyway, in the short run retail giants like Walmart will likely increase the standard of living to consumers and in return weaken India's economy, unless India sets a high tax on Walmart in order to balance things out.

Definitely not, because you want a shaving blade urgently you cannot go to wall mart and buy. Similarly if you want a corriandar leaves it is not advisable to go to walmart and buy. To put it in a very shorter terms I can say in a Country like India where majority of population lives in rural and semi urban areas, the concept of walmart cannot work. Impact of these retail gaints are restricted to urban areas only to some extent.

the supermarket revolution came to india few years back.. tats all because of our indian govt's decision to allow the foreign investment.. well the supermarket concept has it's own advantages and disadvantages.. everything under 1 roof, less prices(comparatively),credit card payment... but in a broader sense it's just making the life of a small indian businessman's into hell...
the retial gaints never allow the small businessman's products in there market.. they jst look for the "brand name" and bot the quality.. well 30% of indian's are into small business.. so they are going to have a tough time and tough nightmares!!
