Sauce makes the pizza - bad sauce bad pizza
Don't use any generic sauce or anything cheap.
I say'd use some kind of puree, those taste real good.
Anything that taste like Prego (pasta sauce) is the way to go, trust me.
Or you can go the traditional route and the cheaper way by using JUST raw tomato sauce and add oil.

if would probably be cheaper and taste better if you just get a great receipe and make it yourself.

In fact here is on you can try:

INGREDIENTS:
1 clove garlic, mashed and minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon olive oil
dash red pepper, optional

PREPARATION:
Combine all ingredients. Makes about 1 1/2 cups, enough for 2 pizzas.

Use a sauce that has plum tomatoes .... they have the best flavor. I am Italian.
