if she had a vaginal birth maybe 6 weeks. if it was by c section than longer. if she breastfeeds she will lose most of the weight by 6 weeks. breastfeeding makes u lose about 500 calories, so imagine how much weight she will lose by doing it 8-9 times in one day.

6 weeks is the recommended time. Her body had some major trauma and needs time to heal. If she is breast feeding it will help lose weight faster, but for me until I stopped I was about 5 pounds off. When I stopped I was back to normal. I will say though that after about 3 months of having the kids I could fit into most of my clothing (except for the low rise jeans). She can though maybe when the baby is 2 weeks take walks with the baby. That is not too strenous and don't let her speed walk, but it is one that she can do now. I would wait for strenous exercise until 6 weeks though. Her body will really thank her for it.

After 6 weeks she can exercize if the doctor clears her, but if she's breast feeding, some of the weight will probably come off on it's own during the 6 weeks. She should expect to keep some weight on as long as she's breast feeding as your body is hanging onto more because of the nutrients it needs to provide the baby.

When your sister has her 6 weekly check up with her dr he will be able to tell her when she is able to exercise. Both my babies were delivered by c section, when i had my 6 week check up he told me not to overdo it for a couple of months. Even if your sister had a natural delivery she will still need to take it easy, believe me there will be plenty of time to exercise and loose the weight when the baby starts crawling and walking, which can happen as early as 6 months. Going for walks with the baby in the pram does wonders for your weight as well as your mind, especially if you have a screaming baby that wont settle. Dont worry, your sisters body has just done something amazing and it takes a little while to get your body back. Just dont let her get down about it, some people munch on junk food to make themselves feel better when they are unhappy. As long as she eats healthy and doesnt snack on garbage, she should be just fine.

They say 2 weeks after pregnancy is okay to begin light exercises after a vaginal birth and 6 weeks if she has a c-section.
I would recommend she take the exercising slow (and easy) and if she's breastfeeding, that will also help with getting her weight down. But, when breastfeeding you have to be real careful about your diet to make sure you produce enough milk for the baby.
Good luck to your sister. Just tell her to be patient - she will get there. I had 2 boys via c-section and lost all my weight, but took it slow!!

4 - 6 weeks. Her body needs time to heal. Muscles have been stretched during delivery and if she rushes any physical activity she leaves herself open to injury. Tell her to relax and breast feed if she can. Women often lose much of the pregnancy weight just by breastfeeding alone.

I would say 6-8 weeks but she can take like 1/2 hr. walks everyday if she feels good & energetic. Just nothing too strenuous.
Congrats on your new nephew!

assuming everything went ok, then she can start doing gentle exercise in about 6 weeks.
in the UK midwives will give you a printout of recommended exercises to do that help strengthen your lower back and get to work on the pelvic floor! thats a must

as is already suggested that she will start loosing if she breast feed and the rest will be taken care off when we baby starts to move on its own.
i guess she will need a little bit extra energy for that!!!! so no need to make an extra effort to loose it
